The Leica Elmar 50mm f/3.5 is a classic Tessar-type anastigmat designed by Max Berek in 1925. Its optical formula consists of 4 elements in 3 groups, derived from the pre-war Leitz Anastigmat and Elmax designs. Produced in both screw-mount and M-mount variants through the early 1950s, this lens established Leica’s reputation for compact, high-resolution optics with minimal field curvature and excellent contrast even at full aperture. The example shown is in excellent cosmetic condition retaining original engraving and black paint finish.
