Leitz's third-generation 5cm f/3.5 Elmar ran from 1954 to 1961 in screw and M mounts, the M-bayonet run alone accounting for fewer than 47,364 lenses. The optical layout is the Tessar-derived four elements in three groups, stopping to f/22 through a ten-blade diaphragm, with a 45 degree diagonal angle of view and one metre close focus. It collapses into the body, takes A36 or E39 filters and weighs about 125 grams, which is why it stayed the standard Leica travelling lens.
