The 21mm f/2.8 ASPH Elmarit-M took over from the pre-aspherical design in 1997 and ran to 2010, nine elements in seven groups with an eight-blade diaphragm, E55 filters and the 12592 hood; production across both finishes was around 7,250. Order number 11897 is the silver version, and the difference is material rather than optical: chrome-plated brass in place of the anodised aluminium used for the black 11135, which makes it the heavier of the two. This one is 6-bit coded for digital M bodies.
