The M2 was launched with a push-button rewind release, which proved unpopular and gave way to a lever inside the first year of production. Black paint cameras early enough to carry the button came from a single batch of 500 delivered in December 1958, against 1,851 black M2s and 93,221 M2 serial numbers in all. Everything else is standard M2: 0.72x finder with 35, 50 and 90mm brightlines, and a cloth shutter of 1 to 1/1000s over brass beneath the paint.
