Leitz introduced the Elmarit 28mm f/2.8 in 1965 as order number 11801, a nine-element, six-group wide-angle made at both Wetzlar and Midland in Ontario; the Canadian version is engraved LEITZ CANADA. Its deep rear group is the reason the lens will not clear the metering arm of the M5 or later metered bodies. It takes Series VII or E48 filters, has a ten-blade diaphragm, focuses to 0.7m and weighs about 225g. Only 3,200 serial numbers were assigned to the listed first-version batches.
