The Leica Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 Version 1 (factory code 11870) is the original 1959 steel-rim design produced exclusively for the Leica M3. Its optical construction is a 7-element 5-group modified Gauss-type formula, the first 35mm lens to reach f/1.4 speed for the Leica M bayonet. Hand-assembled with chrome-plated brass barrel and focusing helicoid, it remains one of the rarest and most sought-after M-mount lenses, with only a few thousand units made before the 1966 redesign.
