The second Elmarit-M 28mm f/2.8 came from Midland, Canada in 1972 and ran to 1979, fewer than 7,050 lenses under order number 11801. The optical work by Walter Mandler, Garry Edwards and Erich Wagner reduced the design to eight elements in six groups and, crucially, removed the deep intruding rear element of the Wetzlar first version, so the lens can be used on the M5 and later metered bodies. It takes Series VII or E48 filters, weighs about 300 g and focuses to 0.7 m.
