Introduced in 1933, the Leica III added slow shutter speeds, split at 1/20 second onto a separate dial on the front of the body, and gained strap lugs. Production ran to 1939 and totalled 76,457 cameras, of which 27,366 left Wetzlar in black paint and 49,091 in chrome, so black is much the smaller part of the run. Black bodies carry nickel-plated brass knobs and fittings, and the paint lies over brass, so honest wear shows yellow metal.
