The Leica M3 black repaint is a rare factory-finished variant of the 1954 M3, the first Leica with combined rangefinder and viewfinder, 0.91× magnification, and bayonet lens mount. Internally identical to standard production models, it features the original 1954–1956 shutter mechanism and film advance system. Black paint was applied at the Leitz Wetzlar factory on special customer order, making surviving examples significantly rarer than chrome versions.
