The Leica M3 Corner Early Silver Chrome is the inaugural production variant of the M3 rangefinder, manufactured 1954–1955 with the distinctive “corners” body style before the transition to rounded shoulders. Serial numbers in the 700000–785000 range identify these first-series cameras, featuring the original Leica M bayonet mount, 0.91× magnification viewfinder with 50/90/135 mm framelines, and single-stroke advance mechanism. Its historical significance lies in introducing the M-system that replaced screw-mount Leicas, with only approximately 13,000 early corner units produced, making them scarce among collectors.
