A 1955 chrome M3 from the first phase of production, when the camera still used a glass film pressure plate and the pre-1957 shutter speed scale and advanced the film in two strokes. Leitz assigned 233,209 M3 numbers between 1954 and 1966, the large majority of them chrome; black paint ran to 1,320. The 0.91x finder is the highest magnification fitted to any M, working over a 68.5mm rangefinder base with automatic 50, 90 and 135mm framelines. Catalogued 10150, order code IGEMO.
