The National Optical Company of Leicester was a daughter firm of Taylor, Taylor and Hobson in the same city, and its 2 inch f/2 Anastigmat follows the Speed Panchro cine design on which Taylor Hobson built its reputation. It is close kin to the collapsible Taylor Hobson 2 inch f/2 fitted as the standard lens to the Reid, the British Leica copy made by Reid and Sigrist. Lenses carrying the National Optical name were made in very small numbers indeed.
