In 2002 Leica introduced the APO-Summicron-M 2/90mm ASPH. in titanium finish as limited edition model. The lens was accompanied by the Summicron-M 2/50mm and Summicron-M 2/35mm ASPH. lenses.
All three of them were released for the Leica M6 TTL titanium finish limited edition camera and had been strictly limited to 500 units each.
In contrast the previously build Leica M6 titanium finish and the handful of lenses which has been available in the same finish were regular production and discontinued.
Technically, the titanium finish version of the APO-Summicron-M 2/90 ASPH. is based on the very shortly available silver chromed version of this lens and, due to the different surface finish, has a perhaps even more elegant and distinguished appearance.
Due to the strict limitation to only 500 pieces worldwide, all three lenses in particular were sold within the blink of an eye and to this day the titanium versions are very rarely found on the second-hand market.
