The Leica M5 was introduced by Leica Camera AG in 1971 and was the first Leica rangefinder camera to offer through-the-lens (TTL) metering. Despite being underrated, it has a viewfinder that shows both the shutter speed and meter reading. Originally, Leica designed the camera with strap lugs for vertical hanging, but users didn’t like this. In response, a third lug was added, making it easier to quickly bring the camera to eye level while keeping it partially hidden and protected under the arm.
