This is a top plate from a black paint Leica M9, presented as a display piece rather than as a working part. Seen on its own it shows the M layout clearly: the shutter speed dial, the release with its main switch collar and the accessory shoe, along with the way the plate is machined and painted before the camera is assembled. Parts like this reach collectors through service stock and dealer displays, and they are the usual way of showing M construction without dismantling a camera.
