The M6 put through-the-lens metering into the M body without altering its shape or its mechanical shutter, drawing on a single CR 1/3N cell for the two-arrow LED display. Leica built 158,309 M6 classics between 1984 and 2003, of which 50,876 were finished in silver chrome against 82,831 in black. Chrome bodies use the same painted zinc top and bottom plates and the 0.72x finder with framelines from 28 to 135mm. The first chrome batch, in October 1985, ran to just 600 cameras.
