Leica reissued the 50mm f/1.2 Noctilux in 2021 as order number 11686, rebuilding the 1966 design rather than replacing it: six elements in four groups with two aspherical elements, the layout that made the original the first series-produced lens in the world to use two of them. This black version is the regular production model, in aluminium with a 49mm filter thread and a vented metal hood; a silver chrome edition of 100 in brass ran alongside it. The dreamy, low-contrast wide-open rendering is the point.
