Wetzlar-made examples of the original 35mm Summicron carry the Leitz Wetzlar engraving; the same eight-element, six-group lens was also assembled by Ernst Leitz Canada. Announced in 1958 and built until 1969, it ran to 21,492 bayonet lenses plus 577 in screw mount, with a sixteen-blade diaphragm, f/2 to f/16, E39 filters and 0.7m close focus. The eight-element formula is the most complex Leitz used for a 35mm Summicron and the one later versions were measured against.
