The rigid Summicron of 1956 to 1968 put the seven-element Summicron optic into a fixed chrome barrel with a ten-blade diaphragm, E39 filter thread and one-metre minimum focus. Collectors divide it into two types by the focusing ring: this second type has the flatter, wider scallop and carries both metre and feet scales. Its later coatings are usually credited with slightly crisper, higher-contrast results than the first type. Leitz catalogued the chrome lens as SOSIC, later 11818.
