The 90mm Summicron-M in its third version was made from 1980 to 1998, 29,853 lenses in all, on a five-element, four-group design by Walter Mandler with an eleven-blade diaphragm and one-metre close focus. Silver chrome examples come only from the last years of the run and are far less common than black. The chrome finish adds real weight: about 690 g against 475 g for the black lens, which changes how it balances on an M body.
