The first 90mm Summicron arrived in 1957 as the fastest long lens in the M system, six elements in five groups behind a fifteen-blade diaphragm, taking E48 filters and focusing to 1m. Most were built by Leitz Canada. At around 650g it is a substantial lens, and the deep telescoping hood suits the tight 27 degree field. Rendering is the classic Mandler-era balance of firm central detail and smooth falloff, favoured for portraits. Black finish examples are far scarcer than the common chrome.
