Walter Mandler's second version of the Summilux-M 35mm is the pre-aspherical classic, a seven element, five group f/1.4 built from 1967 to 1995 in a run of roughly 28,000 lenses. This is the early form, recognised by the infinity lock on the focusing tab, a fitting dropped on later barrels. It takes E41 filters, focuses to one metre and closes down through a ten blade diaphragm. Wide open it trades contrast for glow and a nervous, swirling background; by f/4 it draws crisply.
