Leica's M3 opened the M system in 1954 and remains the most numerous of the classic Ms, with 233,209 serial numbers assigned before production closed in 1966. The finder magnifies 0.91x, the highest of any M, over a 68.5mm rangefinder base, and calls up 50, 90 and 135mm framelines automatically. This is the chrome double stroke version, advancing the film in two short strokes as Leitz built it until the single stroke mechanism arrived in 1958. The body alone was catalogued 10150, order code IGEMO.
