Angenieux built the Type S1 50mm f/1.8 as its standard lens for still cameras, and this one has been converted to the Leica M bayonet after the fact, an aftermarket mount rather than a factory fitting; it will therefore serve on M bodies and on mirrorless cameras through an adapter. French fifties of this period are chosen for character rather than clinical correctness: warm, luminous rendering wide open, softly haloed highlights, and contrast that firms up quickly on stopping down.
