Cooke's Speed Panchro was the professional cine lens of the sound era, developed by Taylor, Taylor and Hobson from Horace Lee's 1920 Opic and made from 1930 in thirteen focal lengths between 24 and 121mm, all at f/2. By the mid 1930s Hollywood was shooting much of its output on them. This 40mm has been modified from its cine fitting to Leica M, an aftermarket conversion rather than a factory mount, which puts the Panchro look on a rangefinder or mirrorless body: soft, glowing highlights and swirl at the edges.
