Kinoptik of Paris introduced its Apochromat series in 1939 in focal lengths from 25 to 100mm, a double-Gauss design built entirely in-house and kept in the catalogue into the 1990s. The 50mm f/2 was supplied in Cameflex and Eclair cine mounts and became a staple of postwar French film-making. Corrected across the primary colours, it is known for high contrast and saturated, accurate colour at full aperture. This example has been converted from its cine mount to Nikon F for use on SLR bodies.
