The 90mm f/4 Elmar is the compact long lens of the Leitz rangefinder catalogue, a four-element, three-group design that trades speed for even correction and a slim barrel. This rigid version was made from 1954 to 1968 in both Leica screw thread and M bayonet, under fewer than 79,605 serial numbers, with the screw-mount lenses produced in much smaller quantity than the bayonet ones. The barrel is clear-anodised aluminium, minimum focus is 1m, and the drawing is quiet and even once stopped down.
