Leica's fourth-version Elmarit-M 28mm f/2.8, order number 11809, ran from 1992 to 2006 to roughly 10,130 lenses and was the final pre-aspherical 28mm Elmarit. Eight elements in seven groups, an E46 filter thread, 0.7m minimum focus and about 260g make it markedly more compact than the third version. In six-bit form the bayonet flange carries the coding Leica introduced with the M8, either applied at the end of the run or added later by the factory, so digital M bodies read the lens automatically.
