Leica's a la carte programme, launched at Photokina in 2004 and run until 2018, let a buyer specify an M7 to order: finder magnification of 0.58, 0.72 or 0.85, the frameline set, the rewind type, the top plate engraving and the body covering. Black paint was the most requested of the finishes, laid over brass so the metal shows warm where the paint thins. Underneath sits a standard M7, with aperture priority exposure from 32 seconds to 1/1000s and mechanical 1/60 and 1/125s backup speeds.
