Catalogued as SUMUS in its collapsible form, the Summar was Leitz's first f/2 lens for the Leica and the standard fast fifty of the 1930s screw-mount outfit, made from 1933 to 1940 to about 127,950 examples, roughly 120,000 of them collapsible. Six elements in four groups, uncoated, with a 36mm slip-on filter seat and a hexagonal iris that produces the swirling backgrounds the lens is known for. Chrome is the finish that pairs with a chrome Leica III of the period.
