The F36 is Nikon's original motor drive, named for the thirty-six exposures of a standard cassette and good for about four frames a second, and it is what made the F the first 35mm SLR with a genuinely practical motorised system. It mounts only on a body fitted with the motor baseplate, so drive and camera had to be matched. Power came from an external pack until Nikon's own cordless grip arrived in 1966. Black F bodies were built throughout production but in far smaller numbers than chrome.
