The 21mm f/2.8 Elmarit-M gave M users a fast super-wide from 1980, eight elements in six groups, and ran until the aspherical version replaced it in 1997; fewer than 13,930 were built. From serial 3363299 Leitz revised it for rangefinder-coupled focusing and moved the front from E39 to E60, matched to the 12543 hood, and that later E60 form is the one here. It has been 6-bit coded after the fact, so current digital M bodies recognise it and apply the right corrections automatically.
