The 35mm Summilux-M Aspherical, order code 11873, was Leica's first M lens with two aspherical surfaces, each ground and polished by hand, which is why it lasted only from 1991 to 1994. Walter Watz's nine element, five group design focuses to 0.7m and takes E46 filters. Sources give production figures from about 2,000 to 4,000 lenses. Collectors know it as the double aspherical or AA, and it remains among the most closely watched of all modern M lenses.
