Order number 11817 covers the third 50mm Summicron, built from 1969 to 1979 in black anodised aluminium and nicknamed the high leg for its tall barrel. It was the first Summicron to focus to 0.7m and the first to use a six-element formula in place of the seven-element rigid optic, trading a measure of that lens's glow for higher contrast. Leica's records give fewer than 44,029 lenses in total. The E39 filter thread and ten-blade diaphragm carry over.
