The 28-90mm f/2.8-4.5 ASPH Vario-Elmarit-R was Leica's last professional zoom for the R system, covering wide-angle to short telephoto in one barrel and built to prime standards rather than as a convenience. Eleven elements in eight groups, aspherical surfaces among them, hold the correction right across the range; the filter thread is E67 and the lens weighs 740 grams. Order number 11365 ran from 2003 to 2009 and reached only about 2,135 lenses, of which the 2004 batch was 35, so it is among the scarcer R optics.
