The first Tele-Elmarit-M, the version collectors call the fat one, was built from 1964 to 1974 in fewer than 11,900 examples: five elements in three groups, a ten-blade diaphragm with half stops, E39 filters and 355g, focusing to one metre over a 27 degree field. The thin Canadian version that replaced it in 1974 is a different four-element design at 225g, so the two draw differently despite sharing a name.
