Catalogued by Leitz as LOOHW in body-only form, the IIIc was the first Leica built around a die-cast shell, with top plate and rangefinder cover in one piece and chrome-plated brass fittings over an aluminium casting. Slow speeds run to one second alongside the usual top speed of 1/1000. Leitz assigned 133,626 IIIc numbers between 1940 and 1951 across nine batches, from 360101 to 525000, making it the most numerous of all the screw-mount Leicas and the basis for the IIc and Ic.
